thanks! i especially like the study on OT tradition and how we can learn from the Jewish holidays from centuries ago.
but i think an important thing to remember is that these weren't all necessarily Jewish "holidays"... they were Jewish "rituals"... so just making sure the point of our holiday isn't to be ritualisic or try to do the "good Christian thing" and make a checklist in our heads of things we need to do in order to feel more holy and productive, lol. but using the time as best as we can to spend time with God, as any other day, seems fitting. :) He just wants to be included, not escaped from :).

As a PK we had lots of holidays visiting missionaries and Dad would preach through interpretation - because of the language barrier of course!! They were great times but I think there was the healthy balance of work and rlaxation. All of us, including Dad, were ready to come home. As an older teen I loved being an officer on loads of camps and the Aber conference...well! The getting married and having kids. Yes Aber and Keswick, but then there was the weekly children's work and youth work in church. We definitely needed a break from that and were the better for it when it resumed in September.More recently, the kids and I have enjoyed a long weekend in Italy as our only family holiday, and they have been to camps as their holidays. I need a break, definitley, but they have to be taken as days only for obvious reasons. The last one was in February!! I think a time may come when they can give back by being officers and active in their churches, but I hope they also take the time to relax so that they don't burn out. Whatever form that relaxation takes is a personal thing but I'm sure they won't be clubbing in Spain!!!!You've certainly provoked some discussion up here (EMW mag), and its always good to review how we spend our time. But that is also true of all year round.Have a good Aber - Deiniol is looking forward to it. He is in one of the Cwrt Mawr YP flats having had an excellent Quinta.

@Alison: I was conscious that much of what I wrote didn't necessarily seem easy to achieve. I actually thought of the two of you as I was writing! I'll follow up on an e-mail - I owe you a message or two ;-)@Dave: I'm not conforming, believe me. I've yet to meet anyone who's read this, and said "that's why I've been doing!". I was asked to write this because I asked the question: "what does the Bible say about holidays?", and no-one knew the answer - and nor did I. But we need to know - we spend a lot of money and time on them. One of the things that this leads to is that we should be less self-centred with our view of holidays, more concerned for others, and - at least sometimes - we ought to be prepared to work through our holidays. I thought you would approve of that.
